[It's not surprising that he doesn't care. That statement makes her feel significantly more secure, in fact. He doesn't care and he's not lying about caring, so she doesn't have to waste time and energy wondering whether she should be suspicious. She'll stay stranger-wary.]


They wanted to save me. Then they wanted to know about the man who killed me. He killed a lot of other people; they thought I knew something about that.

[And, of course, she did. A dispassionate shrug.]

He almost killed me. I was in a coma for a while. Then I woke up, and then, later, someone else finished the job. Neither of them hesitated. Just the second one who tried had a lot more practice and no interruption.
