[Abigail's voice quavers, as though she's uncertain of the connection, like someone making their first long-distance call. She starts out firm and then peters out into uncertainty, the tail end of her first sentence almost a question.]

My name is Abigail . . . Hobbs.

I'm not sure how I got here, but I'm here now. [A pause; who to ask for?] I'm looking for Dr. Alana Bloom. She's tall with dark hair. She was supposed to check in with me this morning, but instead I'm here.

Are there - [And here she inserts a little more tremor than necessary into her voice, because she doesn't know what else to do right now - ] Are there letters home? That kind of thing? How does this work? Because I need to talk to my dad.

Unfortunately, there's no way to talk with the outside world once you're on the Barge. Which also means Dr. Bloom probably won't be checking in with you any time in the near future.

Yeah. That's the impression I'm getting.

So what do I do now?

That's not very helpful. I'm in a prison, aren't I? There's not much I can do.

Now that's just narrow-minded. There's plenty to do.

You could go for a walk. You could go hang out in the CES if you ask. You could take a nap. You could work-out in the gym. You could get something to eat. You could sulk and feel sorry for yourself in your room.

You could even read a book if you wanted.

I've covered a lot of that list already.

I don't think riddles about seafood count as something to do.

I think riddle is giving me more credit than I deserve, but you are still thinking and maybe even imagining.

I do believe thinking and imagining are something rather than nothing and you would be doing these things. Therefore, something to do.

How do you know I'm not already thinking?

[This is perhaps a little sharper than she intends it to be.]

It's usually a safer assumption that people aren't.

You know what they say about assumptions.

It's not all that insulting when the evidence supports my assumption.

You were, after all, asking me what to do instead of coming up with something on your own.

Thinking and doing aren't the same.

Only if you are thinking of nothing.

But then again, I would like to give you the benefit of the doubt that thinking of nothing would require strenuous effort on your part and result in you doing something.
