That's a pretty idealistic viewpoint, although I guess not as idealistic as some.

Megamind. Former inmate of seven months, under Kay, who was gone before your arrival.

You'll find most Inmate who stay on are primarily motivated by attempting to right wrongs they've done in the past, and a Deal is a good way to do that. They also believe in the system... some don't, and some only pay lipservice.

But you do. Believe in the system, I mean.

I believe it is a system, and all systems are as functional as the people who use them and are in them intend that system to be! No system is perfect, and no system will work if the people within it do not.

It's not perfect. It's far from efficient. I've already lost one inmate myself, one I thought had a very good chance on learning what he needed to and getting out of here a graduate. I know one warden who went through five inmates before he had a graduation, and another who has two to her name. Both of those wardens are now inmates of the system itself.

My warden was the very model of everything a warden could and should be -- and I was his third graduated inmate.

So if the wardens are flawed, the system fails.

It seems like a lot of pressure to put on all of you.

And of course, wardens are people and thus, flawed.

But sometimes we do things right, and the people here who can be helped, get the help they need, and they walk back out into their lives, and are better for it.

[ Megamind is an idealist at his core. Even as a villain, he had that strange sort of hope. ]

But you didn't walk back. You stayed. Like you're stuck.

I did go home, for a time. I walked back into my life, picked it up, and made something better, back there, for a while. But I had goals I can't achieve without the boat.

So I came back.

Without the deal, you mean.

[megamind]

Correct. As of yet, I've not been able to manage time travel. So-- that's what the barge will provide me.

Backward or forward?

Backward. I need to go to the past, and fix something.

Can I ask what?

[megamind]

My deal's public knowledge: I was sent from my planet when I was very young, because it's sun had collapsed. I crashed on earth, was raised there.

My people are gone. I want to go back in time, and keep that sun from destroying those planets by stabilizing it. That way, the two populated planets orbiting it, and their billions of lives, will be saved.

If you're going to make a deal for anything, you might as well go big and important.
